one is healthy if they are medically fit – normal vital signs, physically active, and no medical problems. However, what is physical health if we are not mentally or spiritually healthy as well? Perhaps this is one of the lessons in oncology that I have treasured most – that some of the healthiest people I know are those living with cancer. Despite their physical “limitations”, there is a peace of mind and sense of calm that accompanies with psychological and spiritual health. For some, it transcends treatments and side effects. What I have learned is that people can be healthy in many different ways – and for some, being healthy in one domain does not translate to being healthy in another.
