Trust is knowing that someone has your best interests at heart; that one will not purposefully hurt you, emotionally or physically. Trust is also at the heart of the clinician and patient relationship, and when one is dealing with a life-threatening condition- or one where there are no guarantees- it is critical. It does not come easily, but when it comes to cancer, trust develops over time, and it does so through the seeds of honesty, deliberateness, and compassion.
